Job Description: The Montessori Elementary Lead Guide is Montessori trained and certified with a minimum of three years classroom experience. They guide the children’s activities spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and academically in a prepared Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach his/her fullest potential, in accordance with Montessori philosophy and Oak Meadow Montessori School policies and procedures for the age group in which the Montessori diploma is held.
The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a Montessori Elementary Lead Guide and be able to meet the requirements of the licensing agencies and accrediting bodies governing the school. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. Certification as a Montessori teacher through AMS, AMI, or a MACTE accredited institution and a bachelor’s degree are required.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Planning, supervising, and implementing the Montessori curriculum for the classroom community in accordance with Montessori philosophy and the policies of the school.
Implementing AMS and OMMS standards throughout the community.
Being responsible for the care and maintenance of classroom materials
Treating students and adults with dignity and respect.
Helping students become aware of their roles as integral members of their community.
Supervising the Classroom Assistant and Special Instructors who deal with children
Participation in curriculum development and implementation.
Attending all staff meetings.
Participation in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other activities of professional growth.
Implementing methods for effectively utilizing classroom assistants and volunteers.
Planning and implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the students.
Maintaining current, accurate academic records. Hold regular conferences with parents. Have on-going communication with parents in regard to their child’s specific needs.
Be responsible with the Classroom Assistant for the safety and physical well-being of the students at all times.
Assisting in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the students.
Assisting in public relation events sponsored by the school.
Assisting the Administrators in developing and implementing adult orientation courses and seminars as requested.
Maintaining current student attendance records.
Notifying the Head of Elementary Level or Head of School immediately of personal difficulties with children, parents, or staff.
Protecting the privacy and working atmosphere of the group at all times.
Conducting class meetings for parents when appropriate and communicate and cooperate with classroom representatives.
Communicating and cooperating with the Head of Elementary Level or Head of School on program changes.
Understanding and practicing the OMMS code of ethics.
